X-Acto XLR Electric Pencil Sharpener

The X-Acto XLR Electric Pencil Sharpener was designed for home office or personal use. The design features a motorized pencil sharpener that is enclosed by a black, plastic shavings receptacle. The electric sharpener has a reliable design, and the motor can sharpen most pencils without jamming or stalling. The box design was selected because it is economical and increases the power of the motor.

However, there are a few design oversights that detract from the function of the sharpener. First, the horizontal positioning of the shavings receptacle makes it difficult to clean out the pencil shavings without spilling them on the desk. A design where the receptacle attaches from beneath the sharpener would minimize this problem. Further, the one-size whole is restrictive, only allowing standard sized pencils to be sharpened. While this might suffice for normal office uses, the design could be enhanced for specialized users by accommodating multiple pencil sizes in the design.
