The Ramen Spoon Fork
Eating
ramen noodles can be challenging for all but the ambidextrous. Even if you’re
skilled with both hands, it can be difficult juggling a spoon and a fork
without your utensils flailing about the table. Designed in 2007 by Masami
Takahashi, the Ramen Spoon Fork is intended to solve this dilemma. This
two-in-one utensil features a spoon-shaped design with fork ends protruding
from the top. With this handy design, the user can eat the broth and twirl the
noodles around the fork edges effortlessly.
While innovative,
the design of the spoon-fork combo is not without flaws. First, the fork edge
has a short protrusion, decreasing the amount of ramen you can scoop with the
utensil. This might be aggravating for those who really enjoy eating the
noodles first and saving the broth for last. Finally, the protrusion of the
fork edge requires you to carefully use the spoon to avoid poking your lips.
This design could be improved by adding retractable fork that can be extended
from the edge of the spoon through a handle mechanism. While the design is
sleek and durable, there is room for improvement when it comes to usability of
this utensil.
