IKEA Lockable Cabinet

Every household has medicines, blades, and other dangerous items that need to be kept away from young children. The Gunnern lockable cabinet meets this need by allowing users to lock the cabinet door with a separate key. At 12 5/8” in width, 4 1/8” in depth, and 12 5/8” in height, the square cabinet has a visual design that stands out in any bathroom. However, the bright red color of the cabinet might clash with more conservative bathroom designs. To improve the aesthetic value of the cabinet, designers should offer this product in neutral tones such as gray or white.

Functionality is another drawback of this cabinet design. At 4 1/8” in depth, the cabin is shallow overall, reducing storage place. The width and height should be increased by 3 inches to allow more storage room for medications and medical supplies. Further, the use of a separate key to open the door can be cumbersome. Users might forget where they placed the key or be burdened with the task of carrying the key with them to the bathroom every morning. A lock that opens by password entry should be substituted to enhance the convenience of the product design.
